The Marzano GL-100 combines solid spruce with solid walnut, giving it more projection headroom than the cedar-topped instruments elsewhere in the range. Spruce needs time to open up but keeps its definition under a hard right hand, which matters once you are playing in a room rather than a practice studio.
Walnut on the back and sides sits between mahogany and rosewood in character — warmer and more resonant than mahogany, more focused and less bloomy in the bass than rosewood. The African rosewood fingerboard and mahogany neck complete a specification aimed at a player who wants to grow into the instrument over the first year of ownership rather than hear everything on day one. Tuners are precision 21:1 ratio machines, which hold pitch more precisely during fine tuning than standard-ratio hardware.
