Casarez SLR-480 ST — solid cedar and walnut classical guitar

4 699,00

Solid cedar over solid walnut — an unusual pairing that gives a warm, immediate response with a firmer low end than mahogany. Handmade, high-gloss finish. For players who want a cedar guitar without the softness cedar sometimes brings.

Description

Walnut is the reason to look at the Casarez SLR-480 ST. Most cedar-topped classical guitars in this bracket are backed with rosewood or mahogany, and both are safe choices. Walnut sits between them, and the result is a guitar with the quick, forgiving response of cedar and a bottom end that stays defined instead of blooming.

The top is solid cedar. Cedar is already open on the day you buy it — there is no waiting period, no long break-in, and it answers a light right hand immediately. That makes it the traditional choice for fingerstyle players and for anyone whose repertoire depends on colour rather than volume. The trade-off is headroom: cedar compresses earlier than spruce when driven hard.

The solid walnut back and sides are what stop that becoming a limitation here. Walnut is dense enough to keep the low register articulate, warm through the midrange, and clear rather than glassy in the treble. Played across a full programme, the guitar holds its shape from a quiet étude to a loud rasgueado without any part of the range taking over.

According to the manufacturer the instrument is built by hand from solid tonewoods throughout, and finished in high gloss. The finishing work on the examples we have handled is clean — no filler at the bindings, tight purfling, and a bridge seated squarely. This is a guitar aimed at players who already know what they want from an instrument and are choosing on tone rather than on specification sheets.

It suits advanced players, teachers and recording guitarists, particularly those working in fingerstyle and Latin repertoire where the cedar-and-walnut combination shows what it can do. If you play mainly loud ensemble work, a spruce-topped instrument would serve you better.
